Are you a moving company, or do you just hand my New York move off to someone else?
Yes, we are a moving company, the real one doing the work. The words in our name do not make us a broker or an agent network. Admiral Van Lines holds NYSDOT authority along with USDOT and MC authority, parks fourteen of its own trucks at the 29th Street office in Long Island City, and pays every mover a W-2 wage signed off by Vinny. Nothing gets resold. Whoever prices your job and whoever carries your couch down the stairs draw from the same payroll.
How do you land on the price for a move across the five boroughs?
That is your call. Smaller loads can go hourly: two movers at $160/hr, three at $220/hr, four at $290/hr. Or take a flat written band tied to the size of the home, running about $500 to $800 on a studio, $800 to $1,350 at one bedroom, and up toward $3,700 to $5,900 for a four-bedroom. Can Admiral run a doorman co-op move on the Upper East Side or in Tribeca where the board wants a COI?
That is everyday work for us. Our crews know a doorman building expects a certificate of insurance naming the property, a reserved freight elevator, and a set loading window, and Gina has all three handled before the truck rolls. We read each building's rules ahead of time, and one flat written rate covers the entire job.
Which parts of New York City and the metro does Admiral cover?
Every borough. Manhattan from FiDi and Tribeca up through Chelsea, Midtown, and the Upper East and West Sides to Harlem; Brooklyn from the Heights and Park Slope across to Williamsburg, Bushwick, Bay Ridge, and Bensonhurst; Queens from Astoria and Long Island City out to Forest Hills and Flushing; the Bronx from Riverdale to Fordham; and Staten Island and Yonkers just over the line. We also run the long-distance jobs out of here, south through the tunnels toward DC or west over the GW Bridge.
Is my shipment covered while Admiral has it?
Yes. $1M of cargo protection covers every move. By default the federal released-value rate applies, $0.60 a pound, and you can upgrade to full-value protection, priced at 1 to 3 percent of declared worth. There is a nine-month claim window. Since Admiral is the actual mover and not a pass-through, anything you ever need to file lands with Mike at our Long Island City office, never with a carrier that is a stranger to you.
Do you need a deposit to hold my move date in New York?
A refundable $100 to $200 reserves your date, and rather than adding to the cost it gets deducted from what you owe at the end. Grabbing a big payment upfront and then disappearing is exactly the broker behavior Vinny built Admiral to avoid.
What happens if a snowstorm or a building reschedule forces me to change the date?
Dates shift, and we shift with them. Get word to Gina a day or two out and we either refund the deposit or roll you to the next open slot. A nor'easter, a closing that slides, a co-op board moving its elevator booking, all of it is ordinary in New York, and a single call sorts it out.
Can the Admiral crew pack the apartment too?
Yes. We can pack the entire apartment, limit it to the fragile kitchen and the artwork, or simply drop off cartons and tape so you handle it whenever suits you. Each piece of furniture is wrapped in pads and sealed in shrink for a tight walk-up descent, and our own employees do the packing, not hired-by-the-day help.
Is there storage for a gap between my New York leases?
Yes. Should a closing fall through on timing or the new place not be move-in ready, climate-controlled storage costs roughly $140 to $320 each month depending on the unit, holding your belongings securely until the dates line up. Have Rachel build it into the estimate.
Will Admiral take a long-distance move out of New York?
Yes. Operating under USDOT and MC authority, we put one truck and one crew on the whole run, your New York doorstep to wherever you are landing. Regular lanes go south through the tunnels toward DC and the Carolinas, or west across the GW Bridge toward Chicago. The crew that loads is the crew that unloads, and nothing gets transferred to another trailer or parked in a warehouse en route.
Should I tip the crew after a walk-up move?
Never expected, though always welcome once the crew has earned it, and a five-flight haul tends to. There is no standard amount. Some folks give every mover a fixed sum in cash, others work from a percentage of the bill. The call is yours, and the work Tariq and Dominic's crews put in does not change either way.
